My Story

Hi, I'm Melanie, a 200-hour yoga teacher, specializing in gentle and restorative yoga asanas. I graduated from the Soma Yoga Institute, where they provide a therapeutic perspective to explore yoga. My classes are deeply nourishing, creating a peaceful and calming practice accessible to all levels. The flows are designed to help students relax and de-stress, while also helping build strength, flexibility and balance. I'm passionate about creating a safe space that allows students to reconnect with their minds and bodies. I believe that through the practice of restorative yoga, we can all learn to breathe, move, and live more mindfully.

I love sharing yoga with everyone who thinks they need to be more flexible before they begin yoga. Prior to beginning my own personal journey, I had believed with all my heart that yoga was for skinny, wealthy, non-brown folks. And I thought that I wasn't flexible enough or even brave enough to do handstands and inversions. But one day, I took the plunge (via Youtube) and learned quickly that yoga is about healing, not about flexibility. I learned about all 8 limbs of yoga, and the many differnt yoga styles. I found I don't have to do inversions or power yoga, if I didn't want to, and I was still a yogi.

Yoga helped me manage my depression and anxiety. Before yoga, I turned to large amounts of alcohol, marijuana, and binge eating. It helped me connect and relearn myself. Yoga taught me how to meet myself where I am and how to ground my energy. I gained self compassion, and learned to ease up on judging myself so hard. I completed my 200 HR yoga teacher training in Oct 2022 and this experience has given me the tools to guide beginners through gentle and restorative practices. I am a big fan of use of props as these unlock another level of accessibility. It is so satisfying and meaningful to me to have students say that their minds feel clear and their heart feels at ease after a session with me.
